Some music I wrote. Free sheet music. Public domain, use it however you wish (well, don't claim you wrote it).
Some of it is finished. Other pieces are small or unfinished, but they're as complete as they're going to get.
- 1974: The Hope (original) (midi,
pdf, mscz).
I wrote this in second grade and entered it in the school composers' contest. Eventually it placed second in
the nation (for second grade competitions), and the school library was given a nice book from Julliard.
- 1974: The Hope (remembered) (midi, pdf,
mscz) What I remembered, until recently when I found my mom had saved the original score.
- 1982: Fugue for Strings (midi, pdf,
pdf (vio1), pdf (vio2),
pdf (vla), pdf (cel),
mscz). I directed Ann Dean and Ken, Jeanette, and Doug(?) Knowles performed this for
a school administrative event. I got first place in the Akron school composer's contest, and won music theory
lessons from Mary Ann Griebling, which led to several of well developed short pieces. This was the one time in my
life (so far) when writing music was a scheduled activity.
- 1984: Unfinished 1 (midi, pdf,
mscz).
- 1984: Fanfare (midi, pdf, mscz)
- 1985: A prickly song (midi, pdf,
mscz)
- 1986: Thunderstorm (unfinished) (midi, pdf,
mscz).
I played the piano about half an hour a day during college, and was trying to write this. It was easy to improvise
on. I got through the initial wind and lightning and thunder and downpour, but not the steady rain that follows.
- 1991: Brown Guitar (midi, pdf,
mscz)
- 1997: Something Celtic for a Cello (midi, pdf,
mscz, YouTube). Before
I had kids, I woke up in the middle of the night one night, wrote this down, then went back to sleep. 25
years later, when I started playing cello, I found it is very easy to play. I wonder if I made it up or
just remembered something I had heard earlier.
- 2004: Dog at the Beach (midi, pdf,
mscz, YouTube). Harmonica.
- 2004: Blue Sky (midi, pdf, mscz)
- 2004: A waltz (uses the words from the US national anthem) (midi,
pdf, mscz,
YouTube). One days when the kids were little I
forced myself to write ten melodies to the words of the national anthem as quickly as I could. This was the best,
one other was tolerable, the other eight were more primitive.
- 1985, 2012: A Texture, and Variation (for Violin + Cello) (
midi,
pdf (vio, cel),
pdf (vio),
pdf (cel),
mscz).
I wrote the first two lines or so of this under Mrs. Griebling, then finished it in 2012, shortly
before starting to learn the cello. Over the next year I kept simplifying it until I could
actually play the cello part.
- A Texture, and Variation (for Violin + Viola) (

mscz).
- A Texture, and Variation (for Flute + Viola) (

- 2014: The Reluctant Goldfish (
midi,
pdf (vio, vla, cel),
pdf (vio),
pdf (vla),
pdf (cel),
mscz,
Performance,

I was thinking of naming it "Study #17", but Phoebe liked the Goldfish title.
- 2014: The Reluctant Goldfish (for three violins) (

- 2019: Lori Lee (
midi,
pdf (score),
mscz,
YouTube).
I had a dream where a women named Oreo said I was the one who wrote Lori Lee, and she sang it
while a friend of hers sat back in a wicker chair and played it on guitar.
I said, "I didn't write that! But if you sing it again I'll write it down." She said no.
Then I woke up, and wrote it down.
- 2024: The Hunt of the Buffalo Chicken
(YouTube). (The 2024
songs, I wrote the lyrics, had Suno generate music, I revised the
lyrics where Suno had trouble, then I wrote my own music and sang them
myself. So, words and music all written and performed by me, but with
Suno AI in the middle acting as a second opinion.)
- 2024: My True Love in Tennessee (YouTube)
