Jacob Correll

On March 24, 1845 in Tuscarawas County George Corell married Catherine Mann on Dec. 20, 1846, same county, Jacob Corell married Margaret Mueller (Miller).

The census records for 1850 shows, living in Dover Twp. George Corell aged 33, a farmer born in Germany, with a wife Catherine age 32, born in Germany and sons George 4; John 3; Henry 2. The same records show living in Bucks Twp, Jacob Corell 31; shoemaker, born in Germany, his wife, Margaret, 21, born in Germany, and daughter Philipppina, 3, later called Phoebe.

An old record book at St. John's Church in Dover, Ohio, says George Korell and Lydia Mann were sponsores or godparents at the baptism of Lydia, daughter of Jacob and Margaret Miller Corell on Jan.8, 1865. George Correll and Faur were likewise sponsors for some later children of Jacob and Catherine Correll.

Records tell us Jacob Correll came to America form Maugenheim Rheinbaierm (this is in Rheimpfalz district of Germany)

No documented proof has been found yet but a study of known facts would certainly seem to indicate that George and Jacob were brothers and they came to America in the early 1840s.

They show up in the 1870 census. I could not find them in the 1880 census. There were an inordinate number of apparently unrelated Corrells around Tuscarawas Count at the time, a William Correll and Israel Correll as well. Most came from Germany, but Israel's father came from Maryland.
